Miss Jamaica Universe 2007 Zahra Redwood is ranked 22nd among contenders in the Miss Universe pageant according to pageant website Global Beauties.com.

The website's 'Starting Grid' lists the beauties who are in 'the pole position' and 'the most favourable positions' for gaining the coveted title. Last week, Zahra was listed at 18 of the 20 top contenders. The starting grid, which is updated periodically, shows any changes in placement of the contenders.

Two weeks remain for the coronation of Miss Universe, which takes place on May 28, in Mexico.

Miss Spain, Natalia Zabala Arroyo, is currently holding the number 1 position, with pageant powerhouse Venezuela's Ly Jonaitis in second place. Miss Mexico, Rosa Maria Ojeda, a bald-headed Miss Tanzania Flaviana Matala and Miss Greece, Doukissa Nomikou, round out the top 10. There are 77 contestants in the Miss Universe competition this year.

A lot of attention

Zahra has been receiving a lot of attention as the first Rastafarian contender in the competition's 50- year history.

In fact, Global Beauties has a cover interview with the queen speaking about her roots, her interests and what she expects from the contest. To that question Zahra responded, "Difference. Since I am the first Rastafarian to enter this pageant, I expect the pageant viewership to increase enormously and attract wider media coverage, attention and appeal."

The starting grid will be updated today to reflect the 'ups and downs' of the contestants.
