Adam and Eve, a Garden of Eden in the bustling city

For over a fortnight, the sign inside the car dealership on Constant Spring Road has elicited several conclusions. Among them is that it's a food place. But Adam and Eve is actually a new spa with a different twist. It is owned by Garth and Kemisha Walker, the latter just stepping out on her own, having worked with her brother-in-law next door in the motor car industry for nine years.

Just under two months into another lifetime job, that of motherhood, Mrs. Walker is ready for the challenges. She told Flair, "I am ready for the new challenge, this is something that has been my dream for a very long time and my husband and I have finally realised it," the St. Hugh's High School graduate said. At her new spa, she plans to give the customer "an easy, relaxed atmosphere in a tranquil setting that is a one-stop place for all pampering services."

Don't be fooled by her pretty face. Mrs. Walkerhas honed her business experience over the past nine years. It will be a good fit, as customers in search of a comfortable ride can simply walk over and be pampered while they wait. She describes her brother-in-law as being a great teacher from whom she learnt all the ropes, giving her intimate knowledge of every aspect of running a business.

With no shortage of places to get the ultimate spa experience all over the Corporate Area, Flair wanted to know exactly what it is that sets Adam and Eve apart. First of all, there are some newtouches. The proud owners, along with manager Tameka Dunkley, showed off the two-level complex.

The ground floor features a comfortable reception area with huge stuffed sofas; colours are cool olives with brown, mustard and cream and attractive mural dominating the upper level wall. To the right of the lobby is a three-station barber shop where well-groomed barbers wait on customers in the spa's black and monogrammed overcoats.

Beyond the barber shop, women enter a cosy hair and nail salon where privacy is premium. The finishing (styling) area is separate from the shampoo section. Chairs in front of the basin are already contoured so the client rests comfortably throughout the process.

"We ensured that the fixtures we chose would be different from what one normally finds at salons and spas," Mrs. Walker said. This in response to Flair's question about the attractive foot bath complete with rose petals (in Thailand there are orchid petals). Other fine touches are the cosy fabric upholstered chairs where under-dryer comfort is assured.

Upper Level

A spiral staircase leads to the upper level that houses an attractively, laid-out kitchen area. A bowl of fruit and fresh fruit drink form part of the package while you wait for a massage. Other services include facials. "We have not reinvented the wheel, we have just made it more special," Mrs. Walker said.

Manager, Ms. Dunkley, said Adam and Eve will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mondaysto Saturdays, and only for appointments on Sundays.

The staff of 14 places emphasis on excellent customer service. "We looked for persons with a passion for what they do and who are pleasant, experienced and eager to deliver the quality service we aim to provide," Mrs. Walker said.

Located at 114 Constant Spring Road, the official opening will be announced soon.

At Adam and Eve Day Spa, one's feet are made to feel special during a simple pedicure. It's all in the bath filled with fresh petals.
