Western Bureau:

Granville FC crowned themselves 2006-07 Captain's Bakery Western SuperFootball League champions yesterday afternoon when a hat-trick by burly striker Jermaine Anderson gave them a big 3-0 win over Montpelier in the second leg final at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay.

By virtue of the win Granville, which lost last Wednesday's first leg game 1-0, took the two-way tie 3-1 on aggregate and in the process, earned qualification for the upcoming 2007-08 Wray & Nephew National Premier League elimination, which will yield two qualifiers for next season's competition.

"I knew that one goal could not beat my team so I came here today expecting to turn the tables on Montpelier," said Granville's coach Tracy Reid, who had earlier guided her team to the two End of Round titles. "The players were focused and ready - nothing could stop us today."

BOTTLE THROWING

The first half, which ended in confusion following a bottle-throwing incident between rival fans, started with Montpelier all but taking the lead in the fifth minute.

A superb curling shot by Lenore Campbell had goalkeeper Loxley Reid back-pedalling brilliantly to tip the ball over the crossbar.

With dreadlocked midfielder Jason Rose providing the energy in the middle for Granville, they gradually began to take control and missed two good chances in the 28th and 31st minutes.

With time running out in the half, Granville took the lead in the 44th minute when Rose dropped a superb pass into the path of Anderson, who missed a penalty in last Wednesday's first-leg. As if to make amends, the striker picked his spot perfectly and then fired past the goalkeeper, making the half-time score 1-0.

Following the half-time mayhem, during which the police had to fire shots in the air to restore calm, the second half started with Montpelier looking tentative and Granville ominous.

With the rain pouring down and the action on the field fast and furious, Granville struck again in the 60th minute. On another break down the middle, Snow traded passes with Rose before flicking the ball to the unmarkedAnderson. He made no mistake, shooting past goalkeeper Jermaine Vidal, making the score 2-0.

With the momentum in Granville's favour, they sealed the issue in the 82nd minute with another superb strike. Substitute Rodney Hines capitalised on a defensive error and sent Anderson clear with an accurate pass. He dribbled two paces before booting home to complete his hat-trick and make the final score 3-0.

"When I missed the penalty on Wednesday I told myself that I was going to give back the team two goals for the one I missed," said Anderson. "The third goal was a bonus for Captain Burrell (Horace), who sponsors the competition."
