THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a Jamaican living in New York for quite some time and sometimes read The Gleaner on the Internet. I found the Letter of the Day written by a Christian gentleman quite interesting, calling the prayer breakfast a mockery. He must not have read or overlooked very important facts stated in the Bible.
There are certain things the Bible clearly states that would happen in the final days of earth's history. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - social problems. People living in fear - Luke 21:26; wars and rumours of war, Matt. 24:6,7; false messiahs, Matt. 24:4,5; increase in scepticism, 2nd Peter 3.3,4; famine Matt. 24 ,7 earthquakes Matt. 24,7; pestilence, Luke 21, 11 children will be disobedient. This is quite an accurate description of what is going on in the world today and lots more can be found in the good book.
No amount of praying is going to prevent these things from happening, they are all describing the signs of his second coming. God's spirit will not always strive with people who choose to be wicked. I live in the world's richest country; you can get free education and be anything you want to be, yet recently some student could just go into a store, purchase guns and kill 32 of his fellow students. Do you think one should discontinue praying?
Each one of us will have to give account for our actions. Keep on praying.
I am, etc.,
