Air Jamaica Chairman, O.K. Melhado, has refused to confirm reports that the airline is to cut several of its flights to London.
High Commissioner to London, Burchell Whiteman, reportedly held a meeting on the weekend with members of the local community to brief them on changes at the airline. According to a source who attended the discussions, British-Jamaicans who take pride in flying with the national airline, were upset at not being consulted over the cuts.
Travel agents who do business with Air Jamaica are also concerned.
"We're not in a position to discuss this at the moment," said Mr. Melhado. "We're looking at all sorts of things. You know the airline has not done well, and we are looking at all aspects of our operations."
He said that he had seen notes of the meeting and there was no mention of route cuts.
Air Jamaica may sell its routes to British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, which last year began flying from Montego Bay to London.
