Labourer convicted of murder in Content
published: Tuesday | May 22, 2007

A Home Circuit Court jury has convicted Nassive Williams, labourer, of Content district, St. James, for the murder of 35-year-old shopkeeper and tailor, Kelvin Ainsley, also of Content.

Ainsley was shot dead about 12.30 p.m. on January 15, last year on the Content Main Road.

The Crown, represented by Dirk Harrison, acting deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, led evidence at the trial that Ainsley and other persons were on their way home from a wake when, while walking on the Content Main Road, Williams and two other men came up.

Identification parade

Williams, who was known to the witness, demanded money from Ainsley and then shot him.

The witness made a report to the police and subsequently pointed Williams out at an identification parade.

Williams said in his defence that he did not commit the murder. He said further that he was not on the Content Main Road at the time of the incident.

Justice Bryan Sykes has put off sentencing until June 8.
