Mullings now a contender

Although none of the races produced an upset, the Pick-9 proved elusive for the fifth consecutive raceday at Caymanas Park on Saturday, lifting the carryover to $2,081,732.

The Super-6, on the other hand, was caught by 308 punters, each receiving $9,2823.00.

The Pick-9 races produced five winning favourites in BABY RENEE at 5-2 in the third, STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT at 4-5 in the sixth, SPLASHIN RIVER at 3-5 in the seventh, RUSH TO VICTORY at 4-5 in the eighth and ARCHANGEL at 6-5 in the closing straight five race.

Mild upset

There was a mild upset in the fifth race where REIGNING HEROINE at 7-1 upstaged her more fancied stable-companions STRONG DELIVERY (5-2) and I'M D'MAC, the 3-5 favourite who failed in his attempt to make all.

Trainer Philip Feanny has been experimenting with REIGNING HEROINE for some time and the American filly finally delivered with an easy victory over 1500 metres.

Held just off the early pace as I'M D'MAC led from 99-1 outsider MISS WEHBS (one to note) for a long way, REIGNING HEROINE was brought with her challenge entering the straight and soon disposed of I'M D'MAC to winby two and a half lengths from STRONG DELIVERY, covering the distance in the good time of 1:33.3, behind splits of 23.3, 46.4 and 1:12.2 for the first 1200 metres. She should go on from here.

Serious contender

Oneil Mullings, who has been riding well and should develop into a serious contender for the jockeys' title, rode three winners to share the spotlight with hot apprentice Omar Walker, who also had a triple.

Mullings is the go-to jockey to land the gamble for many trainers and he is making few, if any, mistakes.

Unlike Paul 'Country' Francis, Mullings has maintained his consistency and would more than likely be in front had he not been away in the United States for a while, some weeks ago.

His three-timer on Saturday comprised BABY RENEE, ARCHANGEL and TRUE SENSATION (5-2), all for trainer Christopher Morrison.

Mullings has so far ridden 19 winners this season, seven behind joint leaders Omar Walker and Javour Simpson, both of whom have been suspended for the next couple of racedays.
