NOTE-WORTHY - Disappointment
published: Thursday | May 24, 2007

Disappointment

As a returning resident who waited with bated breath to return to my Jamaica, I feel disappointment and frustration with the situation in the country I love.

Which party to vote for? I have not had the opportunity to vote in a general election in Jamaica before and I was looking forward to casting my vote. I have discussed the election issue with several persons of different political persuasions and to my disgust, do not feelI should vote for any party.

The 'tribalism' which exists in Jamaican politics makes me feel very uncomfortable. Law and order, I feel, is a token gesture. Now that I am here I am so disappointed. Lack of respect and discipline is destroying my Jamaica. The reception for most returnees has been poor and many of us are now wondering whether to remain here.

Revenue gap

Why is it that tradesmen, who have their private contracts to build houses, do not pay GCT or income tax to the Government?

These people charge extra extra sums of money to do work. The Government should intervene with the help of building officers and revenue collectors to ensure that taxes are collected. This would certainly provide more revenue to help with our financial crunch.

Daughter

Percival Bryan now living in Canada is trying to get in contact with his daughter, Angella Bryan, and her mother, Ms. Valerie Graham (also known as Blossom).

They once owned a house in Mountain View, and used to operate a restaurant in Bronx, New York. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Angella Bryan or her mother Ms. Valerie Graham please contact Karlene at 546-2171.

Relatives

I am trying to locate my relatives living in Jamaica. My great grandmother, Josephine Lyon, was born in Stepney district, in St. Ann.

She later married Solomon Black. She passed away on March 7, 1980. Anyone knowing any of her relatives are asked to contact 208-680-7530.
