THE EDITOR, Sir:THIS IS in response to your photograph of two women getting 'married' at one of the island's exclusive hotels which was carried in your edition of May 22.
In 2001, a group of us under the leadership of Father Richard Ho Lung, Al Miller and Dr. Barry Wade, formed ourselves into a group under the name Christians United for Love, Justice and Peace (CULJP). The group was formed as a response to the proposed nude weddings to be held at Hedonism 111 in Discovery Bay. At the time, we also pointed out that some hotels were advertising 'girls days' in a manner which was highly suggestive.
Well, we were not taken seriously, the weddings went on in all their naked glory, with the press in tow. Now, we have come to this where one of our hotels can actually be brazen enough to host a same-sex wedding! Is there no limit to what hoteliers will do in order to make money? How far will they go in selling the nation's soul for 'pottage'?
Where do we stand on these issues? When foreign hoteliers set up businesses in Jamaica, are they asked to observe our cultural norms? Where does the Minister of Tourism stand on these matters?
People of Jamaica, wake up, danger is at the door!
I am, etc.,
