The Editor, Sir:I have always looked forward to reading the commentaries and sports section in The Gleaner. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult. My brother was robbed and killed this past week in Spanish Town and suddenly the country that I loved no longer seamed so loveable.
The content of the news appears to be business as usual and the sentiments that are being shared in and around Atlanta is that Jamaica has become a little Lebanon. Six individuals on my netball team have had a relative or friend killed in the last two years.
Are we becoming desensitised to these killings? How long does it take to enact laws that actually protect the innocent from these monsters? How long before we invest in technology that will actually put these murderers and robbers away.
Heaven help you all; sooner rather than later the tourism dollars will disappear, and those who can leave the island will leave. Many of us are praying, but prayer without works is dead. We must do something and soon.
I am, etc.,
