THE UNOFFICIAL title of 'Montego Bay's Best' and $70,000 will be at stake this afternoon when Seba United and ACS clash in the final of the St. James/Western Sports Champions Knock-out final at Irwin High School starting at 3:00 p.m.
Seba United, who earlier this season won the St. James/Captain's Bakery KO title, qualified for the final on Tuesday with a massive 9-0 semi-final thumping of Violet Kickers while ACS, the reigning St. James/Sandals Division One champions, qualified a day earlier with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Seba Youths.
In terms of their status, the Seba United team, which is a Wray & Nephew National Premier League contender, is ranked about three levels above ACS, the reigning St. James/Sandals Division One champions. However, based on recent form, the differences should not be that obvious. ACS, who have been enjoying a fairly decent domestic season having qualified for the St. James/Captain's Bakery KO final in addition to winning the Sandals Division One crown, are a gifted team with a no-nonsense approach and at full flight they should hold their own against Seba United.
'We would like to win'
"We see this as a game that we would like to win and we will definitely be giving it our best shot," said ACS's goalkeeper, Roxroy Patterson. "Our plan is to go out there and play positive football and hopefully we could get the result we want."
In their semi-final clash with Seba Youths, ACS conceded an early goal but battled back powerfully to secure a 1-1 regulation and extra-time scoreline, which forced the game into the deciding penalty shoot-out.
If their ruthless 9-0 semi-final demolition of Violet Kickers is a fair indication of Seba United's current form, this game could be quite a challenging one for the youthful but enthusiastic ACS aggregation.
Against Violet Kickers, Seba United's goalscorers Jermie Bucknor (three), Delroy Ellis (two), Mario Samuels, Norman Foster, Delroy McLeod and Calvert Louden were so devastating before the goal that had it not been for the many shots that struck the uprights and crossbar, the scoreline could have been doubled.
"We are not taking any prisoners," said Ellis, who switched from his customary position in the Seba defence to attack against Violet Kickers.
"We are the big team in St. James football and we intend to show that every time we get a chance."
