Another J'can hits prime time
published: Sunday | May 27, 2007

Mair

Jamaican-born chef Sara Mair will be displaying her culinary skills on Bravo's hit television series Top Chef on June 13.

Sara is one of 15 contestants competing for the title of Top Chef in Miami.

This is the third series of the show and Sara is the first Jamaican to be featured.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Sara, who is a cheese maker, has an AA in culinary arts.

Her culinary skills were developed under the guidance of Chef Mark Militello, one of the forefathers of new Florida cuisine.

Later, she became the sous chef for Michelle Bernstein at Tantra in Miami. After a five-year stint as Chef de Cuisine at Ortanique in Miami, she left her comfort zone to discover her true passion for cheese.

She is quoted on the show's website as saying she wants to bring cheese to her native land of Jamaica because there is a real need for good cheese there.
