The girls club came out to honour one of their own. The Alpha Academy Alumnae Association held their Woman of Excellence awards banquet last Friday to honour Lorna Bell for her contribution to society.

Mrs. Bell was fted by the association at the Venetian Suite of the Terra Nova Hotel. Mickey Hanson and Dr. Kathy Brown provided the music while Demario McDowell got the crowd involved using his vocal talents.

Accolades

Mrs. Bell served as the assistant executive director for three and half years for the Mustard Seed Communities. She lived and worked in Haiti for three months assisting in establishing homes for the disabled, abandoned and poor children.

Mrs. Bell responded saying she was grateful to Alpha for instilling in her a sense of service and she also thanked her parents for the solid foundation they provided her.

Mrs. Bell is using her love for sports to help others as she is currently helping to organise the Special Olympics team that will travel to Shanghai, China, in September.

A member of the team honoured Mrs. Bell at the banquet with a performance on roller skates, twirling on the slippery floors of the dining hall, and even dipping and ducking in between the tables.

Those who turned out for the event included Rosemarie Voordouw, Gloria Palomino, Sister Mary Bernadette Little, Beverley Lopez, Mackran Singh, deacon Ronnie Thwaites, Susan Nelson-Bloomfield, Zachary Mighty, Natasha Bell, Sasha Mighty, Tamika Bell and Andrea Bent, among others.
