Jamaica Gleaner Letters

LETTER OF THE DAY - Where did Jamaica go wrong withfree education?
The Editor, Sir: The country is once again embroiled in the partisan 'Free Education' debate. This debate originated in the 1950s with the introduction of the Common Entrance by Norman Manley.

Batting for peace: a recurring decimal

The Editor, Sir: As appeared on the front page of The Gleaner 22/5/07 - 'Leaders bat for peace'. This is to me a recurring decimal. The statements announced by both political leaders are highly commendable, the embracing denotes a symbol of peace for the upcoming general election, but are the tongues bridled against unsavoury remarks...

Whatare we doing wrong?

The Editor, Sir: Richard Branson is now richer than the nation of Jamaica, I assume. But you don't necessarily need money to make money.

A really bad (Jamaican) road

The Editor, Sir: There are a number of bad roads in Jamaica, but few could be worse than the one in Johns Hall, Clarendon. This road links Silver Spring in the south, through McKoy to Aenon Town in the north.

Congrats Mr Lee Chin

The following message was sent from rime Minister Portia Simpson Miller of Jamaica on the occasion of the opening of the Michael Lee Chin Crystal at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Road plea to Peart

The Editor, Sir: Last year September, a group of residents visited the office of Local Government Minister, Hon. Dean Peart, seeking assistance to repair Faith Home Road in Golden Spring, West Rural St. Andrew.
