Jamaica Defence Force, Manchester in big clash
published: Saturday | June 2, 2007

Joint leaders Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Manchester will square off in this weekend's Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super Cup feature match at Up Park Camp.

The JDF, sitting atop the standings alongside St. Elizabeth on 11 points, will be facing a formidable Manchester team which despite being hampered by rain in recent weeks, are tied for third with Melbourne on 10 points.

Chacon Chambers, a former Holmwood schoolboy, Joseph Palmer and Bereston Reid are the JDF's top batsmen this season. They should get major support from Mel Wint, Damion Grey and Mark Grey, while pacers Warren Medwinter, Kamal Dennis, Howard Copeland and Fabian Anderson, along with spinners Mark Grey and Akhbar Moodie should do the job.

First innings honours

Apart from 2005 when Man-chester won outright, they have also done well against the army men, taking first innings honours in the past three seasons.

Again, despite blown away for 114 by St. Elizabeth last weekend, Manchester with leading run-scorer Donovan Sinclair - who hit 101 against Lucas in the second round - Domain Sangster, Matthew Sin-clair, Gary Graham and Jeffery Scott, have very good batsmen.

The bowling department, which last weekend, defended their team's low score, shot out St. Elizabeth for 99. Neive McNally, who led the way with six wickets, will once again lead the team's attack with support from left-arm spinner André Dwyer, Sangster, Donovan Sincalir and David Powell.
