Fiver boosts Taylor
published: Saturday | June 2, 2007

West Indies pacer Jerome Taylor is bubbling with confidence following his five-wicket haul on day one of their warm-up game against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at the Racecourse ground yesterday.

Wickets have been hard to come by for the pace bowler since heading to England. In the first Test at Lords he went for a combined for 135 for one in both innings. At Headingley, Taylor finished with pricey figures of 114-1 as England batted only once in an innings and 283-run win.

"After having some dull moments since I came to England I think today worked out well for me, and I am trying to move from strength to strength," Taylor told journalists at the end of yesterday's play.

"This performance today will help to boost my confidence of course. After bowling on a pitch which wasn't conducive to fast bowling and getting some sideways movement it will help to boost my confidence."

Felt good

He added: "I felt good bowling out there today. My rhythm was good and everything fell into place and I decided to let the ball go and let the ball do the work," he added.

Taylor also praised the performance of the Windies attack.

"All in all I think it was a good effort from the boys. After assessing the track early on and seeing what it had to offer and realising that it was a pretty flat one and since we didn't have an outright spinner in our team the pacers needed to step up to the plate and give a good account of themselves. And that is what we did as a team," Taylor said.

"The conditions are what helped our bowling today, not so much the pitch. The ball was moving around a bit, but the wicket is a very flat one.

"You could see that because even the tailenders from the opposite team were hanging in and batting well. I think our guys put in a very good effort today considering the pitch."

He added: "Tomorrow is a new day, you have to come out again and assess the situation and get the opposition out and go out (to bat) and try hard and do the job for the team."
