Yvonne Ridguard, a 47-year-old attorney, was elected the first female president of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League recently.

The 65-year-old organisation is primarily responsible for lobbying for credit unions, carrying out operation audits and assessments and recommending improvements.

Ms. Ridguard, who has been in leadership positions in the Portland Credit Union and and the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League since 1997, operates a private law practice in Port Antonio.

She replaces Christopher Samuda as president who served the maximum three-year term.
