Pulse promises a glamorous Caribbean Fashionweek 2007 for June 6-10. They gave us a glimpse of some of the designers we can expect at the show.
KAJ by Kevin Julien - Tobago
His first outing at Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) was a hit and Kevin Julien is looking to make a statement after a one-year absence from the event.
In KAJ clothing and accessories, nature's simple beauty mixes with a modern attitude of individualism and high personal style. Bikinis are super sexy with cuts in just the right places to accentuate a woman's best assets. The collections are sensual, accessories are chunky, and raw fabrics are touchable, all in deep earthy hues.
Antoinette Olivia by Antoinette Taylor - London
The Antoinette Olivia line made its debut at CFW in 2005. Now back with her sophomore collection inspired by music, art and the movies, Taylor is eager to show off sophistication in swimwear at its best. Cosmopolitan, confident and very sexy are words that can readily describe the woman who wears an Antoinette Olivia.
Although the new line contains highly functional pieces, it is also ironic and light-hearted. Quality fabrics and processes incorporating a range of lively colours help to maintain the Caribbean influence that is at the forefront of the designer's philosophy.
Look out for a collection at CFW which combines current hip hop trends, a lot more bikinis to encourage sun tans, 50's style á la Marilyn Monroe and pretty, sophisticated bows, ribbons, roses, belts and braces.
Moncrieffe by Barry Moncrieffe - Jamaica
One of Jamaica's favoured design sons, Barry Moncrieffe's artistry is reflected in a disciplined/structured approach to fashion design. His ever-changing exploration of black and white always produces fresh, classical looks. Reds have also become a staple colour in his collection. Simple cottons and linens are made wearable for day, soft georgettes and knits are transformed into moving expressions of glamour for evening. The Moncrieffe name has become synonymous with top quality.
Bill Edwards - Jamaica
A designer who creates stylish and vibrant men's wear, Bill Edwards has been in fashion design for more than 10 years. "I enjoy the designing of intricate patterns, experimenting with colours and creating a sophisticated finish on fabric," notes Edwards.
A major Bill Edwards campaign was launched recently and with billboards all over Kingston and major expansion plans in the works, there is no stopping this bold men's wear maverick. His meticulous attention to detail and top-class finish are two solid expressions of his clothing. He returns to CFW this week and men who follow fashion can expect his usual high standards.
Mosiah by Aidan Jones & Marvin Pearson - New York/Jamaica
This young urban clothing line is making waves in the Caribbean's budding fashion industry. Inspired by Marcus 'Mosiah' Garvey, the signature is now becoming a household name. The Mosiah collection was first presented to the world in Caribbean Fashionweek 2006. Hip skirts and jackets were played up by bright and rich-coloured shirts and accessories. The designers have recently opened their studio at the Caribbean Fashion Centre at Pulse where the urban fashionista can get their fashion fix.
