Procedures for voting
published: Monday | June 4, 2007

Please note some of the new procedures for voting in the next national election.

If an elector votes openly, that is, reveals how he/she is going to vote on the ballot paper in the voting station, then that ballot paper will be deemed spoilt and a new ballot paper is to be issued. If that elector repeats the action the ballot paper will again be deemed spoilt and he/she will be ejected from the polling station by law.

A friend can now accompany incapacitated electors. Previously, such persons had to vote in the presence of everyone. Now those electors will be allowed to keep their ballot secret by having a companion take them behind the screen so they can mark the candidate of their choice.

No elector will be allowed to take a cellular phone or recording device inside the polling station and on the premises of the polling station. Posters will be put up as reminders.

Election day workers and indoor agents will not be permitted to use cellular phones inside the polling station. If there is an emergency they must step outside the facility. Only the supervisor for the polling station will be allowed to carry a cellular phone.
