Special Constable Marlon Anderson, who is charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act, was remanded Thursday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.He is to be tried today.
The allegations are that Anderson told a man he could get him into the police force, and money was collected from the man. When Anderson did not carry out his promise the man reported the matter to the police.
It is further alleged that on May 18, Anderson - who was assigned to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions - asked another special constable to collect money from the man.
Caught in the act
When his colleague went for the money, he was held by policemen from the Bureau of Special Investigations. The policeman explained that it was Anderson who had sent him to collect the money. It is further alleged that the policeman was told to contact Anderson by telephone, and when Anderson came he was taken into custody.
Statements were collected in the matter and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who ruled that Anderson should be charged.
