NOTE-WORTHY: Patty price
published: Wednesday | June 6, 2007

Patty price

I am a bit concerned about the price that we are being requested to pay to purchase a patty.

I think the price is rather outrageous and has jumped significantly over the past three to four years. I just really wonder what it is that we are paying for? I would like to think that the patty places purchase items in bulk, hence the unit price to produce one patty should be rather low and we as consumers should not have to pay so much money for such a small item that cannot be used for filling one's stomach for an extended period of time.

The price of a patty is RIDICULOUS . I think we should as consumers purchase less patties as a means of protest, so that the patty companies can know how disgusted we are with the price of their product and rethink their price structure.

Sad state of affairs

It is a real sad state of affairs to see our beloved country sinking into a pit of utter destruction.

People are being killed mercilessly, lives are shattered, dreams destroyed, hopes dashed to pieces. It is truly a very difficult state of affairs, surviving the harsh realities that Jamaica presents. I am especially sorry for the youth of this country. It is fair to say they have no future. It is quite obvious too that the hopelessness is taking its toll.

We need a change for the better, fast.

Referendum

The problem of whether the Privy Council should remain the body to give its final opinion of judicial matters could be easily solved by a referendum.

Jamaica has been independent since 1962 and there is no reason why decisions should be made for us from England. It is time that West Indians make their own decisions. No law or agreement between the Government and the Opposition can change the present structure of the Privy Council for that is entrenched in the constitution; the only way to change it is to go to the people.

Only people power can change the situation. Instead of our leaders beating around the bush and chatting so much about what they would like to see, go to the people. It is time that we throw off all vestiges of slavery.
