FIFTEEN-YEAR-old Christina Solmon will make her senior debut on the tour of Australia and New Zealand starting on June 29, with the hopes of making some inroads to secure a spot on the squad for the World Netball Championships in November.
Solmon, a student of Tarrant High, will be a reserve goal shooter for the Sunshine Girlz as they fine-tune preparations for the World Champs in New Zealand with this upcoming tour.
"It means a lot to me to be selected," said Solmon, who turns 16 on June 19. "Netball is my sport and it means a lot to be playing at the highest level.
"This squad that is selected is just for the tour. There will be another selection for the World Champs."
Solmon will have players with a wealth of experience around her on the tour from Kasey Evering, Elaine Davis, Nichala Gibson an Byfield, all of whom played in the 2003 World Championships in Kingston. But perhaps the person she will relate to the most is fellow goal shooter Simone Forbes, who also played at the World Champs.
"I look up to all of them," stated Solmon, "but Simone is a goal shooter as well, and she guides me along the way and gives me advice."
Solmon got ample target practice at last November's Under-16 Caribbean Champion-ships in Trinidad and Tobago where she was voted the Most Valuable Player and had the highest shooting percentage.
She also recently guided Molynes United A to the A League title and qualification to the Super League.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the Super League next season because most of the national players play in that league and I look forward to going up against them," she said.
"We have a good team, so it will be interesting."
