JAMALCO WERE the toast of this year's Jamaica Netball Association's leagues as they captured their fifth consecutive Berger Paints Super League title by beating arch-rivals Waulgrovians 2-1 in a best-of-three thriller at the National Arena.

The teams were evenly matched with both boasting a number of current and former national players. Carla Williams, a former national goal shooter, returned from overseas studies to boost Waulgrovians.

Jamalco got off to a bright start by winning a close game one 47-45. However, the Patrick Brissett-coached Waulgrovians team hit back in game two to level the series at 1-1 with a nail-biting 58-57 victory.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the game three encounter, Clarendon-based Jamalco dominated the match from the opening whistle to win by a comfortable five-point margin, 66-61. Jamalco's goal shooter, Romelda Aiken, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

This year's league tournaments also saw a number of the country's most promising youngplayers make their marks in the various competitions.

Two who should be considered forces to be reckoned with in the near future are former national Under-16 goal shooters Christina Salmon and Sasha Wallen.

Fifteen-year-old Salmon led Molynes United to their first hold of the Supreme Ventures A League title and a place in next year's Berger Paints Super League. Molynes United defeated Alpha 49-39 in the final. Salmon was also the MVP of the competition.

Meanwhile, Wallen, a 16-year-old fourth-form student at Wolmer's High, was voted the MVP of the Western Union Division B after she helped guide Skibo A to the crown and promotion to the Supreme Ventures A League. Skibo A defeated Jetsetters B in the final.

Friendship gained promotion to the Western Union B League after beating Jetsetters C 28-19 in the C league final.
