Chester Francis-Jackson, ContributorMy dears, there is an old saying: 'In blind man country, the one-eyed man is king'. This statement holds true generally, and becomes that much more self-evident here in Jamaica where, for the most part, in matters of style, etiquette, and/or the social and/or culinary graces, the blind are not only leading the blind - they have exalted themselves to the ranks of arbiters.
Now, simply because the piano has never written a concerto does not mean it cannot provide us with fabulous music. That it obviously can, as here the piano becomes the vessel of someone else's instrumentality.
Anyone can buy a Louis Vuitton, but because one can does not make one an authority on anything, especially so in matters of style and or decorum. And believe you moi, the more they are prone to rant about it - style, that is - the less of it they have.
There are, unquestionably, two women of style and unimpeachable sense of elan. Their Island Art & Framing, located in the Orchid Village in Liguanea, is a treasure trove of fabulous pieces.
The two - Nicola Byron and Nicola Bicknell - are not only to the manner born, but flawless ambassadors of style, representing old-world charm and sophistication in chic and elan!
Simply put dearly beloveds, their place is a style beacon, a magnet attracting the practitioners of fab-style and the fine art of graciousand elegant living.
Anyway, my dears, with the success of their esteemed establishment, and the constant demand it creates for treasures to decorate the self and the home, the ladies decided on hosting an annual art, furnishing and decor extravaganza to facilitate their doting patrons. The first was held last year, and this year they upped the ante, with a spectacular outing in the prestigious Earl's Court neighbourhood of St. Andrew, that was a study in fabdom, and nothing but! What a fabulous do!
Talk about mecca of style, my daahlings, this was it! Oh precious angels, definitely a gathering of the 'A-Crowd' - the real denizens and doyens of style! And as for the wares on offer, not all things to all men, but most certainly a cachet of fine things to seduce and stimulate those with that discriminating taste!
In a showcase dubbed 'Colour My Mood' that was a fabulous assemblage of the works of nearly 30-something of Jamaica's leading artists draping the walls of the elegantly laid-out house that was venue for the novel outing. The lawns and grounds were dotted with a number of white marquees, that housed everything from the eclectic, to the truly exotic!
Luvs, y'all have heard the term 'from a pin to an anchor'. Well, it was that kind of an event! From the hand-crafted family-sized dining tables, king-sized beds, to the incredulous in highly stylised decor and objets' d'art, and must-have accent pieces - this was an outing worth its very weight in gold!
