Kimone Young and Christon Matthews after receiving their Grade Six Achievement Test results last week. - Norman Grindley/Deputy Chief Photographer Kimone Young is another GSAT success story for the Jessie Ripoll Primary School.
Last week, she was overjoyed when she learnt that she would be attending Immaculate Conception High come September.
"Since I was in grade four, I always wanted to go to Immaculate. Now that I have passed my exam, I am very excited," she said.
"When I found out, I was speechless; tears of joy came to my eyes, to know that I am finally going there.
"My mom felt very good and told me that she always knew that I could do it. My father congratulated me a million times and said that I should now settle down and work harder."
Allowing god to lead
Although undecided about her field of study, Kimone said she wants to go wherever God leads.
She also realises that there are tough times ahead, but with the support of her family, she believes she will be successful.
Kimone has identified her brother as her role model. "He has good grades in mathematics and it has become my favourite subject," she told The Gleaner.
She aced mathematics with 96, and scored 89 in science, 97 in social studies and 96 in language arts. She just missed full marks for communication task, gaining 11 points out of 12.
Kimone has some encouragement for her peers who will sit the GSAT next year.
"Lazy won't help you. GSAT is not hard, all you need to do is sit and concentrate."
She is also urging fellow students to study and reduce the number of hours that they spend watching television.
