Kimone Young and Christon Matthews after receiving their Grade Six Achievement Test results last week. - Norman Grindley/Deputy Chief Photographer When Christon Matthews of Jessie Ripoll Primary School in Kingston found out that he was placed at Wolmer's High School for Boys, he was ecstatic.
"I had tears of joy, because I was nervous, and when I heard, I was just relieved, so I just cried," the 12-year-old said grinning.
"I worked very hard and I am happy that I am going to Wolmer's, because my sister is a student there," he added.
Son of Kareen and Cleveland Matthews, Christon said without his parents and teachers, he would not have performed as well in the Grade Six Achievement Test.
"My parents helped by not allowing me to go on the computer unless I was doing schoolwork, and I could not watch too much TV or play a lot, and my teacher would explain things to me until I fully understood," he told The Gleaner on Friday.
Christon is a member of his school band and enjoys playing basketball. He wants to become a doctor, dentist or pilot when he gets older.
He scored 95 per cent for science, 90 per cent in social studies, 88 per cent for language arts, 88 per cent for mathematics and 11 out of 12 in communication task.
