The Editor, Sir:
Ms. Hanna is a very bright, accomplished and articulate young woman. Her popularity and likeability is without question. Her victory at the polls, on either side of the fence, would be sealed without doubt. So why all this controversy about who is 'newly baptised PNP' and all this nonsense?
What Jamaica needs is to see its bright young people stepping forward and making worthwhile contributions to help lead the country, and move it forward! Our young are more in tune with today's problems and certainly more able; they bring something 'fresh' and 'new' to the table. The country has been led by elder statesmen for decades, and the country is still in a rut. Until we can see more of Hanna's kind stepping forward and running for political office, I fear Jamaica will continueto be crisis-managed!
We must encourage our accomplished young people to enter politics, and help move Jamaica forward, and stop this unnecessary bickering. The 'best' should always be selected to run, not the 'oldest' or the one who has been around the 'longest'. Jamaican politics is too immature, which filters into the heart of Government and the overall ability to achieve. It's time to grow up and be practical and dynamic in our decisions!
I am, etc.,
