Despite the heavy rain which flooded several grounds across the nation, St. Elizabeth plodded their way up the standings to join leaders Manchester as the sixth round of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super Cup concluded yesterday.
Shawn Findlay's unbeaten knock of 101 not out was good enough to see St. Elizabeth snatch first innings points against Trelawny at Alpart, moving to 17.
Resuming on 112 for for four St. Elizabeth, which also got 51 runs from Damion Ebanks, blew past Trewlany's first innings total of 168 to finish at 281 for five declared. Lorenzo Ingram was the pick of the Trelawny bowlers as he had figures of two for 57.
Batting a second time Trelawny were seven without loss when rain forced the end of play.
At Kirkvine: Melbourne, led by André McCarthy's 135, were eventually dismissed for 264 after resuming the day's play on 243 for six. Borris Hutchinson was Manchester's demolition man as he grabbed six for 68, while Neive McNally took three for 71.
The teams were, however, forced to share a point each as a combination of rain and bad light forced the game to be abandoned with Manchester at four for one wicket.
Manchester moved to 17 points while Melbourne remain fourth on 14.
At Sabina Park: Defending champions St. Catherine Cricket Club remained seventh with 10 points after winning first innings honours over Kingston, which fell just two runs short of their first innings total.
Chasing St. Catherine C.C.'s 206 all out, Kingston resumed on 112 for four but fell agonisingly short when they were bowled out for 204. Simon Jackson was the top batsman, scoring 38 runs, Kerry Scott made 30 and Richard Johnson hit 29. Bevon Brown was the toast of the St. Catherine C.C. bowling, claiming five for 52, while Gavin Wallace bagged four for 30 before rain ended the day's play with no second innings action.
At Up Park Camp: Lucas, spurred by an unbeaten 124 not out from former national player, Delroy Morgan, piled up a massive 342 for nine against the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) before declaring. Maurice Clarke also made a healthy contribution to the total as he scored 87 runs. Kamal Dennis spearheaded the JDF bowling attack, taking five for 83, while Fabian Anderson got two for 65.
In response the JDF, who are now sixth on 12 points, were 83 for three when rain stopped play, forcing the teams to share a point each in the no-result situation.
Lucas are eighth on five points.
At Allan Rae Oval: Westmoreland took first innings points off Kensington. Resuming on 228 for eight, Westmoreland went on to make 267 all out with Dwayne Ewart top scoring on 47. Peter Colquhoun did the damage with the ball for Kensington, swiping four for 69, while Clayton Boreland took two for 74.
In reply Kensington, led by 78 from Wavell Hinds, were all out for 217. Myron Wilson led the bowling charge for Westmoreland, taking five for 37. At the close of play Westmoreland, batting again, had reached 94 for one.
