No bail for 15-year-old
published: Tuesday | June 12, 2007

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

A 15-year-old schoolboy has been charged with the murder of another student on the compound of the Braeton Primary and Junior High School in St. Catherine last Thursday. He was remanded to a place of safety when he appeared in the St. Catherine Children’s Court yesterday.

The dead child, 14-year-old, Johnor ‘Odane’ Dinnal, was stabbed to death about 10:00 a.m. last Thursday. Reports reaching The Gleaner are that both students got into a fight, during which a knife was used to stab Johnor repeatedly in the abdomen. He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he later died. The accused was held later that day and charged with murder.

When the accused appeared before Resident Magistrate M. Simone Maddix, a bail application was denied by the Crown which cited the high level of violence in the school system and the gruesome nature of the offence committed on the grounds of the school.

It was also revealed that the offender was on suspension from school and had trespassed on to the school compound when the offence was committed.

He is to return to court on July 4.
