No apology
published: Thursday | June 14, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

It boggles the mind that no one representing the Jamaican police or Government is willing to admit fault or offer an apology for the deplorable and embarrassing way in which Coach Woolmer's death was butchered.

DCP Shields and Commissioner Thomas are absolutely shameless. To be embarrassed in front of a global lens and still feel proud of such a pathetic effort makes me more pessimistic for our future. All this talk of strangulation and poison, of spiked champagne, closed-circuit camera footage and suspicious Pakistani nationals ... all for naught.

Rare is it that two men can create such confusion on their own. The third stooge in this case is government pathologist, Ere Sheshaiah. I can only imagine how many lives his incompetence has ruined, or otherwise unjustly rewarded. I don't know why I held out hope. I don't know why I am surprised to learn the government pathologist is just as wanting and useless as any other individual claiming to be a public servant.

I am, etc.,
