Sammy in doubt for final
published: Thursday | June 14, 2007

Darren Sammy

DURHAM, England (CMC):

THIRD TEST bowling hero Darren Sammy is fighting for fitness ahead of the fourth and final Test of the series against England starting tomorrow morning (Jamaica time).

The 23-year-old sustained a minor groin injury while batting in the West Indies second innings at Old Trafford on Monday on the final day of the third Test.

"Sammy has not been ruled out of the fourth Test in Durham and will continue to receive treatment and a decision on his availability will be made on afternoon of Thursday, June 14," a release from media officer Imran Khan said yesterday.

Sammy turned the third Test on its head on Saturday when he produced an incisive spell of seam bowling to nab seven for 66 in England's second innings.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Ravi Rampaul has been ruled out of the fourth Test after failing to recover enough from a minor groin tear he sustained a fortnight ago in the three-day tour match against the MCC XI at the Racecourse Ground.
