Mixing justice with art

From the first year that Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ) hosted its fund-raising dinner and auction it has been a mixture of fine art and fine food.

The organisation presented its fifth such event last Friday at the Knutsford Court Hotel. Guests from all sectors came out to raise money to help the JFJ administration. We can't leave out the fine music, as Harold Davis provided plenty of that with his varied selections.

Since the inception of the auction, art lovers have scooped up some classics from some of the island's most popular and talented artists at prices that would amaze the art dealers. This year was no different as there were some absolute steals among these pieces, and more than a few guests got some treasures for their living room or lounge area.

There were over 50 pieces to bid on. With master auctioneer William Tavares-Finson squeezing every possible cent out of the bidders, paintings, sculpture and pottery pieces were bought. And there's no reason a few pretty pennies shouldn't have been spent, as this money goes to a worthy cause.

Guests included: Chilean Ambassador Alfonso Silva and wife Ada, Deputy British High Commissioner Paul Nicolopulo and wife Kareen, chairman of JFJ David Wong Ken, Susan Goffe, Chris and Michelle Bovell, Norman Marshall, Stuart and Yvonne Fisher, Richard and Lisa Chen, Anthony Miller, Jackie Hussey-Pearson, Raymond Miles, Sean Clacken, Taynia Nethersole, Cheryl Dunstan, Anne-Marie White-Feanny, Devon Yettman, Maurice and Valerie Facey, Ian and Celia Levy, Les Campbell and Suzie Benjamin.
