Postponed race meet draws mixed response
published: Saturday | June 16, 2007

Glenroy Sinclair, Assignment Coordinator

While Doug and Matthew Gore were ready for a return clash, and Peter 'Bull' Thompson waited patiently to avenge the defeat he suffered two months ago, the big showdown which was scheduled for the Dover Raceway in St. Ann has been postponed.

Acting on the reports of weather forecasters, members of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) took the decision to reschedule the Father's Day meet for next Sunday, June 24.

"It will give us more time to do some additional work on the car," Thompson told The Gleaner.

Former Caribbean champion driver, David Summerbell Jr., stressed that the postponement will give him more time to test-drive his car, which was prepared by Doug Gore's mechanic.

"We will be making the best use of the extra time," David Summerbell told The Gleaner yesterday.

Veteran racer, Peter Rae, said his RX7 Mazda is ready for the track, but did not mind the additional time.

In the meantime, it's a totally different picture from the drivers out of western Jamaica.

"We are very upset about the postponement. Our four Mitsubishi Evolution cars are ready, but we understand that not all of the Kingston drivers' cars were ready for the meet," said Doug Gore, who was really looking forward to the challenges.

The rescheduled meet has now forced him to make a number of cancellations.

"Despite all of this, I will definitely be at next Sunday's meet," said Gore.
