At first, I wasn't au fait with the idea of former Miss World Lisa Hanna being the PNP's candidate in South East St. Ann.
But, after thinking about it for a while, I totally support the lady, if only from a testosterone point of view. You see, if she wins, we will have one of the most beautiful women in the country (and the world, according to the judges in 1993) sitting in Parliament.
Now, that can only enhance the beauty of the House as, let's 'face' it, the old boys are nothing to look at. Not even close. Not only that, she's young, intelligent and, hopefully, will bring a young person's perspective to how things should go in Jamrock. Plus, Jamaicans 'follow-fashion' and if she wins, more beautiful, intelligent women might enter politics.
This is 'tekking bad thing mek joke' but hey, why not? Things are getting tense politically these days. If Ms. Hanna pulls it off, when Parliament meets, I would have a legitimate reason to watch; I know the cameramen will focus on Lisa at some point during proceedings. The last politician I felt like that about was Deika Morrison. When she left the Senate, I was depressed for days.
No disrespect

Now, this is no disrespect to the, ahem, other female MPs. On the contrary, I believe all women are beautiful (in one way or another), and we know that all men have preferences when it comes to women's looks. Plus, it would mean an increase in the number of women in the House of Representatives and since they claim that "is woman time now", we'd be keeping up with the trend across the world.
Truth is, apart from the occasional bills of real importance, there is a lot of blabbing in Parliament and during lengthy speeches like the budget presentations, viewers are going to be bored. And what better way to keep the male viewers interested than to get more MPs who are easy on the eyes? Who knows, by keeping their eyes trained on the television, in the hope that they'll catch a glimpse of the beauties, the men might actually learn something about Parliament.
Now, I can't visualise Ms. Hanna or anybody who looks like her on the campaign platform shouting herself hoarse at a political rally. But, that aside, since there is no manual about how to be a good MP, I suppose it can be done even by someone with no prior history or experience.
So, the next time we see a young, vibrant woman looking to enter representational politics, don't hate; congratulate and appreciate! Later.
