HOUSTON, Texas (CMC):Caribbean side Guadeloupe shot into the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finals Sunday when they upset Honduras 2-1 at Reliant Stadium. Goals from Jocelyn Angloma and Richard Edward Socrier gave French-speaking Guadeloupe their winning result that kept their surprising run in the tournament going.
The win sends Guadeloupe to Thursday's Gold Cup semi-finals against Mexico, who defeated Costa Rica, 1-0 in extra time earlier in the day.
Guadeloupe, who secured their first ever Gold Cup appearance by placing fourth - behind Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba - in the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals in January, were 2-0 up by midway the first half. Angloma picked up a loose ball in the middle of the box and fired a powerful shot past the Honduras goalkeeper Orlin Vallecillo in the 17th minute. And soon after, Socrier took a pass from Loic Loval and scored a headed goal in the 20th minute.
Honduras finally got on the board in the 71st minute when prolific Carlos Pavon scored with a header at the near post.
