Confidence tricksters
published: Saturday | June 23, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I wish to bring to the attention of readers two scams being operated in the Corporate Area that target gated properties, such as townhouses and apartment complexes.

The first scam, that has been going on for a few years, involves a man who somehow gets into the complex and tells whoever will listen to him that his daughter suffers from asthma and he's desperate as he has no money for her medication and she needs a pump. The second scam, which is new, involves a young man who advises residents that their postman has died and he is collecting for the 'nine night'.

These scams succeed because the majority of residents on these properties are not familiar with their garbage collectors or postmen as they do not come in contact with them.

Just alerting you to be on your guard against these tricksters.

I am, etc.,

J. CLARKE
