Byron McDaniel, Gleaner WriterMember of Parliament for North East Manchester Audley Shaw, says there is an alarming increase in the number of deaths due to renal failure in the island.
This Shaw says is due to the shortage of diagnostic equipment in government hospitals which has led to the alarming rate of increase in Jamaica of over 1,000 new cases of renal failure. This Shaw said is contributed to 600 persons dying per year.
The North East, Manchester MP was speaking at the ceremony to hand over $900,000 million worth of medical equipment by Culture Health Arts Sports and Education (CHASE) fund to the Percy Junor Hospital on Friday, June 22.
Shaw made a request for a renal diagnostic machine for the Percy Junor Hospital, and this was endorsed by the Senior Medical Officer Dr. Bradley Edwards and noted by Chief Executive Officer of CHASE, Billy Heaven and its director, Dr. Aggrey Irons.
