published: Wednesday | June 27, 2007

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

Three men whom the police claim were involved in a robbery in Clarendon and who reportedly opened fire at them when their vehicle was intercepted, were shot and killed by the police yesterday.

A 9-mm pistol was seized during the incident.

The St. Catherine police told The Gleaner that about 4:00 p.m. yesterday, they received information that three men who were travelling in a white Toyota motor truck had robbed a business place in Clarendon.

The vehicle was intercepted in the Lluidas Vale area of St. Catherine known as Cassava Pond. The police asked the driver to stop but he refused and opened fire on the lawmen. The police took cover and returned the fire, during which all three men were killed.

Up to press time last night, the names of the men had not been ascertained.
