International customer service certification now available in Jamaica
published: Wednesday | June 27, 2007

For the first time in Jamaica, individuals can now earn international certification in customer service through a new programme being offered by the Jamaica Customer Service Association (JaCSA).

JaCSA Chairperson Ilsa Duverney announced at a recent meeting that the programme was scheduled to start yesterday as the Caribbean's first international interactive training and certification for customer service professionals which will be held at the University College of the Caribbean.

The training is developed through collaboration with the International Customer Service Association (ICSA) and Rockhurst University Continuing Education Centre - National Seminars Group.

The certification, 'Through the Customer's Eyes - Caribbean Perspective', consists of six modules with exercises, activities and practice exams. It is a computer-based programme with an additional unique Caribbean perspective presented by well-trained local facilitators.

This Caribbean perspective will examine issues in the Jamaican, Caribbean and international context as participants explore and discuss local issues and cite indigenous solutions.

On completion of the programme, successful candidates will gain the designation of CSC (Customer Service Certified) as a professional qualification that will be beneficial to the participant as well as employers.

Increased competition

Newly elected JaCSA President, Richard Rowe, said, "The Caribbean territories face increased competition from globalisation and the standards of service have become increasingly important for success."

He added: "A competitive advantage, therefore, can be achieved through the provision of superior customer service."

In identifying the need to provide international certification in customer service, the association has led the way by making this programme easily accessible to Jamaicans. Organisations will, therefore, be able to strengthen their bottom line by having employees with specialised skills provide a high level of customer service to their valued clients.

Further information on the programme, cost and schedule of sessions is available from the JaCSA office.
