Take a chance on Chadman

CHADMAN HAS lowered his sights for a crack at Overnight Allowance afterspending the mandatory eight months in the higher class and should land today's 1400 metre LC McKenzie Memorial Trophy race.

As his time to return to the level drew closer, Wayne DaCosta-trained CHADMAN continued to perform creditably, campaigning between Open Allowance and Graded Stakes.

Last time out, he ran an even race to finish five lengths fourth behind MEDICAL REPORT and stablemate DIGI N' JIGGY at 1100 metres two Saturday's ago.

In his previous race, May 26, he was three and a quarter-lengths eighth behind MUSICAL MAESTRO, CALABASH BAY and MEDICAL REPORT at 1200 metres.

One of his better runs this season was third by five lengths to RAMPAGE and JUST SOME THOUGHTS in the April 21 Lady Geeta Trophy, a Grade I event in which he had both CLOCK WORK and DISTINCTLY IRISH behind him.

With those performances under his belt, CHADMAN, a five-year-old American bred, has good pace and will more than likely run his rivals into the ground.

He last won in October, scoring a narrow Open Allowance victory over AD INFINITUM at 1500 metres.

However, after his initial win, he was not able to cope with emerging runners such as LA REINA, MAJOR MAYER, MUSICAL MAESTRO and RAMPAGE, who took turns at winning their share of Open Allowance races.

Having not won another Open Allowance race since, eight months elapsed, allowing CHADMAN's return to Overnight Allowance.

DaCosta watched his runner blaze 1:00.3 for five furlongs round on Monday, June 11, and hasn't asked him to go as fast since, probably hoping to land the gamble at good odds.

He galloped five furlongs last Monday morning but did so in 1:02.1 and looks set to stamp his class on his nine rivals with Dane Nelson aboard this weekend.

Richard Azan's ROYAL COMMAND has been edging back to form and looked dangerous two Saturdays ago at the top of the lane but was left standing by NATURAL DESIRE at a mile.

The race was run in a fast 1:38.3 and ROYAL COMMAND, who was prominent from the start, will put in another big performance.

However, PRIME SUNDOWN getting the better of Azan's runner close home for second must be cause for concern, suggesting he's not anywhere near his best and must be suspect against CHADMAN, who's down in class.

ABENG and SATISFIER were both impressive winners of their last races but are both up in class and will have to run big races to topple CHADMAN.
