Abstinence education needed
published: Monday | July 2, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I strongly support Senator Donna Scott-Mottley with her move to reduce early sexual initiation with her proposed abstinence education campaign. The high rate of sexual activity among underage teenagers is quite alarming, and I believe that many of these children barely know what they are getting themselves into. They might know what sex is, but not the consequences and this fact is the major reason why the rates of early sexually activity and increased STD infections are so high.

We need to educate not only the children, but adults as well as many of them are oblivious to the consequences. Entertainers and advertisers should also reduce the sexual content of their creations.

I am, etc.,

SHELLEY-ANN
