Alarming lack of accountability
published: Wednesday | July 4, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

With reference to your lead story yesterday, it is amazing that the attorney involved is a member of the board, and also works for the minister under whose portfolio this falls.

It is further alarming that Colin Campbell, who was so involved in the Trafigura affair should be reported here signing cheques again. When will there be some accountability and sanctions against these individuals? Someone should explain to the Jamaican people how a small group of individuals can determine what is taxpayers' money and what is not. What could any attorney do to earn over $23 million from the Government in one year? Let her tell the Jamaican people what she did. This is more than the salary of the Prime Minister and at least two of her ministers. I hope the people demand answers and this is not swept under the rug. A thorough investigation should be launched by the police to get bank records and other documents to determine who may have profited from this transaction. I hope the Opposition will demand an answer from Minister Paulwell.

I am, etc.,

EDDIE JONES
