OCHO RIOS, St. Ann:Principal of Ferncourt High school in Claremont, St. Ann, Reverend Lenwirth Sterling, is appealing to all past students and friends of the school to support the school in its effort to improve the quality of learning.
He said that Ferncourt has been doing an excellent job of graduating some of the countries' top grade students, a lot more could have been achieved if more resources were available at the 69-year-old institution.
Reverend Sterling made the comments while delivering the principal's report at the schools' annual graduation ceremony held at Beechan Ville Methodist Church in Claremont recently.
Reverend Sterling pointed out that one of the most pressing needs at this time is for the school to acquire a bus to transport students on educational trips or sporting activities.
He said the cost of transportation has been a problem and that last year Ferncourt high had to withdraw from the daCosta Cup football competition because the school did not have the money to pay for transportation.
He also pointed to the need for additional computers for computer classes as well as other important teaching/learning equipment.
Reverend Sterling said if past students and other well-wishers decide to do even a little more for Ferncourt, the school could easily rise to become one of the top educational institutions in Jamaica.
High praises
In January of this year, Reverend Sterling earned the distinction of becoming the first past student of Ferncourt to hold the post of principal. He had high praise for his predecessor Mrs. Veronica Archer for doing an excellent job during her time at the school.
Newly-appointed PNP caretaker for south east St Ann, Lisa Hannah, who also spoke at the graduation presented two computers to the school and promised to provide the staff and students with free Internet access through the generosity of Cable and Wireless Jamaica.
Guest Speaker Reverend Stephen Mullings urged the graduates to seek God's guidance at all times in the pursuit of their goals, and to continue making themselves and their parents proud.
