Time to end this charade
published: Sunday | July 8, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I note with disappointment that the Most Hon P.J. Patterson has been campaigning actively for the PNP, thus giving up all rights to the statesmanship role expected from a former prime minister.

This gives credence to the argument that the PNP has a lot to lose in terms of disclosure, if they cannot win this election, as they have brought all their 'big people' out of comfort, and in some cases, luxurious retirement, to fight this campaign. I also note that Mr. Colin Campbell, who resigned in the midst of a scandal, is back in the hustings and on the front line of the PNP bandwagon.

I am hoping that the date will be announced soon and will provide an end to this charade. Already in Manchester, there seems to be a lifting of spirits, as people perceive that there may be a change in the air. The idea of waking up the morning after the election to see the same old faces in charge, is not going down well, and would be like waking with a giant hangover.

We warn that many comrades like myself will be voting for Jamaica's sake, and not just the party's sake. Let freedom ring!

I am, etc.,

E.A. STREET

MANDEVILLE
