Members of the Island Special Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force and election day workers will cast their ballots on August 21, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EoJ) announced yesterday.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has named August 27 as the day for the general election, security personnel who are required to work on that day are allowed to vote at least three days before civilians go to the polls.
At the same time, Danville Walker, director of elections, yesterday repeated his call for security personnel to have their names transferred to the police and military voters' lists. These persons need to inform the EoJ by Friday of their decision to be included on the lists.
The EoJ reported that to date there are 6,308 policemen and 1,393 JDF personnel who have had their names transferred to the lists.
"If we don't know you are a policeman or soldier we cannot put you on the voters list, and when you turn up to vote you won't be able to," Mr. Walker said.
Last week, the EoJ extended the deadline for security personnel who are on the national voters list to have their names transferred to the police and military voters' lists.
"Visit any constituency office and inform them of your name so it can be transferred," Walker said.
