A worshipper gets into the mood at the singles session at the Faith Conference hosted by Reverend Henry Fernadez and his wife Carol at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St. Andrew yesterday.

Singles in the Church get lonely too, and tempted. They also have sexual urges and the need for companionship and family.

Some of these issues were addressed at a singles session at the Faith Conference, held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St. Andrew yesterday.

Hundreds of Jamaicans - some Christian, some single - turned out yesterday to listen as Bishop Henry Fernandez, Carlene Davis and Ambassador Stichie, gave them tips on living single and living well.

Major pangs

One of the major pangs of being single is finding the right person to spend a lifetime with. This search i in Christianity, which stresses the importance of marriage and chastity before marriage.

Bishop Fernandez encouraged the single women in the audience not to become desperate in their search for a partner. He urged them to respect and to conduct themselves in an upright manner. "Women don't get messed up, be in the way Jesus made you and brothers you have to respect her and do your part."

Joan Fuller, a young single woman, said she will be taking the advice given to her yesterday.

"Many people believe that because you are a Christian, and you should be focused on Christ, it doesn't mean that you don't get lonely too," she told The Gleaner. "This session with Bishop Fernandez gives a heart to heart and realistic account of what we go through and offers advice such as how to find strength, a partner and keeping your integrity."

Judging by the hallelujahs and the amens by both the women and men in the audience, it seems that the message encouraging the singles was well received.
