Almost a year after the Portmore toll road was opened, the Portmore Citizens' Advisory Council (PCAC) is crying foul at what it describes as the poor response of Government to its pleas for a more reasonable toll fee. This was outlined in a letter addressed to the Prime Minster on July 6 by the All Hellshire Leadership Council, one of the groups that fall under the PCAC umbrella.
The letter comes in the wake of three scheduled meetings which fell through because of the non-attendance of government officials.
According to the letter, "We feel at this point that the interest of the people of Portmore is being slighted. We believe at this juncture that we have exhausted all constructive approaches in advocating the cause of Portmore residents to be relieved of the difficulties arising from the imposition of a toll road."
Howard Hamilton, a member of the council, told The Gleaner yesterday, "We have been very tolerant and patient, we have asked them to give us a reasonable rate and improve infrastructure so that we can travel with ease."
Earlier this year, the PCAC met with the Prime Minister and submitted a petition, which was signed by some 4,000 residents.
