JAMAICANS DAVID Russell, Camarsh Crumbie and Matthew Rodriquez secured their places in today's second round of qualifiers for the ITF Jamaica Junior Tournament following first-round victories yesterday at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.

Russell, son of former national champion Campton Russell, defeated Michael Cha of the United States 6-3, 6-2.

"It was good for me because I think I played good and I feel like a have a good chance," said 16-year-old Russell.

"The American guy was a good player, so I had to play really well to beat him," said Russell, who is based in Miami and attends the Everglades High School.

Confident

"I am feeling very confident that I can make it into the qualifying round and to win some matches in the main draw," he said.

Meanwhile, Crumbie came from behind to beat fellow Jamaican Joseph Ross 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in an exciting match and Rodriquez whipped Nicolas Riefkohl 6-0, 6-3.

Crumbie was also delighted with his win.

"It was a good victory," said Crumbie, who attends Knockalva Technical High School.

In other games, Trinidad and Tobago's Desta Sandy defeated Jahvair Mullings of Jamaica 6-3, 6-4, Joel Samaha of the United States stopped Macoy Malcolm of Jamaica 6-3, 6-1 and Tigre Hank of Mexico got by Jamaica's Orick Angus 6-3, 6-3.
