  • Business House KO football

    Division Two teams Petrojam and Norman Manley International Airport created notable upsets in the second round of the 2007 KSAFA Business House football competition last week when they defeated Division One teams Courts and Jamaica National Building Society 3-1 and 1-0, respectively, to qualify for the quarter-finals.

    Also advancing to the quarter-final round were defending champions Gleaner Company, Bank of Nova Scotia, National Commercial Bank, Port Authority, National Water Commission (NWC) and University of the West Indies (UWI).

    The competition continues tomorrow with three Division One matches. They are UWI vs Courts at the UWI playing field in Mona, Carib Cement vs NWC at Barbican and Port Authority vs Gleaner at KC North Street. Matches start at 4:00 p.m.

  • C&W on top in KO cricket

    Defending champions Cable & Wireless maintained sole leadership in the Reggae Jammin KO Business House cricket competition (50 overs) when they defeated Nestlé by seven wickets at Chalmers Avenue last Sunday.

    Batting first, Nestlé were bowled out for 123 in 27.1 overs (Gerald Morgan 36, Bryan Wright 20; Yannik Elliott two for two, Damion Jacobs two for 18), Cable & Wireless 125 for three off 18 overs (Elliott 61 not out, Jacobs 33).

    At Mona: Windalco defeated NWC by four wickets. NWC 234 for six off 40 overs (Dean Morgan 59 not out, Roderick Peterkin 33; Peter Pottinger three for 52, Andrew Russell two for 31), Windalco 235 for six (Russell 88, Jason Wedderburn 43 not out, Pottinger 37).

    At Jamalco: Former champions Jamalco beat Life of Jamaica (LoJ) by 139 runs, thanks to an unbeaten century from number three batsman Dwayne Mahabeer.

    Jamalco 245 for six (Mahabeer 108 not out, Winston 'Sala' Osbourne 73, Errol Thomas 20; Joseph Webb three for 49, Kerone Lindsay two for 51). LoJ 106 (Lindsay 34 not out, Marlon Gordon 22; Thomas three for five and Devon Gordon three for 29).

    With two rounds remaining in the preliminary round, five teams are in with a chance of making it to the semi-finals. They are Cable & Wireless with 15 points from eight matches, Nestlé 13 from eight, Jamalco 12 from eight, St. Ann Bauxite 11 from seven matches and former champions Jamaica Broilers 10 from seven matches.

  • Gleaner advance to domino quarter-finals

    Defending champions Gleaneradvanced to the quarter-finals of the Jamaica Electrical Technologies-sponsored Division One Business House domino league when they defeated arch-rivals JET 59-52 in their final round preliminary match at the Gleaner Sports Club on July 6.

    Gleaner topped Zone A with 53 points, seven ahead of JET, who have also advanced to the quarter-finals to be played on Friday at Jacisera Park.

    Unbeaten Wray & Nephew topped Zone B with 60 points ahead of Tastee and have also advanced, while unbeaten Air Jamaica won Zone C with maximum 62 points and will advance with the runners-up, Life of Jamaica (LoJ), from this zone.

    Jamaica Brandy topped Zone D with Seprod finishing second. The draws for Friday's quarter-finals are as follows: Gleaner vs Seprod, Wray & Nephew vs LoJ, Air Jamaica vs Tastee and Jamaica Brandy vs JET.

    In the Division Two quarter-finals to be played at the same venue on Friday, CVM will face Port Authority, Marksman vs Statin, RJR Group vs Social Development Commission, and National Housing Trust vs National Baking Company.

  • JUTC are champions

    Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) won the JET-sponsored Business House KO domino competition on Friday night by virtue of a 69-50 victory over highly-fancied Air Jamaica in the final at Jacisera Park.

    Earlier in the evening, JUTC clipped Seprod 59-57 in the first semi-final to advance, while Air Jamaica crushed Carib Cement 75-45 in the next to earn their berth.
