A Clarendon man and woman who were arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition while on their way to the People's National Party Rally at Half-Way Tree on July 8, appeared in the Gun Court yesterday.They are Vanceta Edwards, 56, of Caana Clarendon, and Jeremiah Heath, 41, farmer, of York Town, Clarendon.It is being alleged that the police stopped a motor car at Ferry, St. Catherine, and ordered the passengers out of the vehicle. The police searched the passengers and Edwards was allegedly found with a 9 mm pistol in her waist. It is further alleged that Edwards told the police that Heath had given her the gun to keep. Mr. Justice Bertram Morrison granted them bail after hearing bail applications from attorneys-at-law Bert Samuels and Dwight Reece. They were each offered bail in the sum of $100,000 with sureties and are to return to court on August 17.
The judge ordered Edwards to report to the May Pen Police Station three times per week. Heath is to report to the Four Paths Police Station three times per week.
